Super Eagles’ Friendly Games Against Venezuela, Colombia Likely To Be Cancelled

Super Eagles of Nigeria’s planned international friendlies against Venezuela and Colombia may no longer hold following the Super Eagles’ qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs.

The team booked their place in the playoffs after thrashing the Cheetahs of the Benin Republic 4-0 on Tuesday night.

The Super Eagles were scheduled to play Venezuela on November 14, with another friendly against Colombia four days later. However, both fixtures are now in danger of being called off, as Nigeria prepares to face tougher competition in the playoffs.

According to the latest schedule, Éric Chelle’s men are set to meet Gabon in the semi-final of the playoff on Thursday, November 13. If the Super Eagles defeat the Panthers, they will take on the winner between Cameroon and DR Congo in the final.

Officials of the Nigeria Football Federation are expected to release a formal statement soon to confirm whether the friendlies will go ahead or be scrapped to allow the team focus fully on the playoff campaign.

Meanwhile, Watford have reportedly withdrawn from talks to re-sign Nigerian forward Emmanuel Dennis.

The 27-year-old has been without a club since leaving Nottingham Forest in August by mutual consent. He has been training with Watford in recent weeks, hoping to earn a contract with the Championship side.

Reports had suggested that Watford were ready to hand Dennis an 18-month deal, but the club appears to have had a change of heart.

According to The Watford Observer, the Hornets could reconsider the move when the transfer window reopens in January.

Dennis is no stranger to Watford fans, having played for the club during the 2021-2022 season before returning on loan in January 2024.
