Felix Agu To Miss AFCON 2025 After Injury Setback, Endrick Pushes For Lyon Loan Move

Nigeria will be without Werder Bremen full-back Felix Agu at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after the defender was ruled out for the rest of the year with a ligament injury.

Felix Agu suffered a syndesmosis ligament injury in Bremen’s 1-0 win over St. Pauli last month and later underwent surgery. The 25-year-old was initially expected to be out for around two months, but his recovery has taken longer than planned.

Werder Bremen’s head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer, confirmed that Agu will not return to action until 2026.

“His return will definitely not take place until the new year,” Niemeyer told DeichStube.

Agu, who represented Germany at the youth level before switching allegiance to Nigeria, had been hoping to earn a call-up to the Super Eagles squad for AFCON 2025. His absence now leaves coach Eric Chelle with fewer defensive options heading into the tournament.

Meanwhile, in Spain, Real Madrid striker Endrick could be on his way out of the club temporarily, with reports suggesting the Brazilian teenager wants to join Olympique Lyon in January.

According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 19-year-old forward is eager to secure a loan move in search of regular playing time, having struggled for opportunities under manager Xabi Alonso this season.

“Endrick wants the move as he is currently behind in the pecking order of attackers,” Romano reported.

Discussions between Lyon and Real Madrid are already at an advanced stage, with both clubs optimistic about finalising a deal before the January transfer window opens.

Endrick joined Real Madrid from Palmeiras in 2024 but has found it hard to break into the starting lineup, competing against established names in the squad. The young striker hopes to gain valuable experience in Ligue 1 before returning to fight for his place at the Bernabéu.

He could still feature for Madrid when they face Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday, but a loan switch appears increasingly likely.
