Alex Iwobi Raises Eyebrows Over Super Eagles’ Hotel In Morocco, 12 Players Hit Camp

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have officially opened camp in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff showdown with Gabon.

The Super Eagles are expected to begin tonight as the players settle into camp. So far, 12 players have arrived, including captain William Troost-Ekong, Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Calvin Bassey, Wilfred Ndidi, and Moses Simon.

Others in the early group are Tolu Arokodare, Olakunle Olusegun, Benjamin Frederick, Chidozie Awaziem, Amas Obasogie, and Stanley Nwabali. Nine more players are due to join later today as preparations intensify for Thursday’s match at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat.

But even before a ball was kicked, a different kind of spotlight fell on the team. Without saying much, midfielder Alex Iwobi drew public attention to what appear to be poor accommodation conditions at the team’s hotel.

The Fulham star shared photos on social media that suggested the Super Eagles’ lodging at the Rive Hotel was below the expected standard for a national team preparing for such an important fixture.

The images quickly spread online, sparking conversations about the Nigeria Football Federation’s planning and the general welfare of the players.

Nigeria reached the playoff stage after finishing second in Group C, thanks to a 4-0 win over the Benin Republic in Uyo. The winner of Thursday’s tie between Nigeria and Gabon will advance to face either DR Congo or Cameroon in the final round.

A win there will take the Super Eagles to the intercontinental playoffs, where a ticket to the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico will be at stake.
