Gabon Coach Mouyouma Plans Tactical Overhaul For Super Eagles Showdown

Gabon’s head coach Thierry Mouyouma says he is ready to tweak his tactics as his side gears up to face Nigeria in the semi-final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs.

The crucial match will take place on Thursday at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat, where both teams will battle for a place in Sunday’s final.

Mouyouma, speaking ahead of the encounter, acknowledged that the strength and organisation of the Super Eagles have forced him to reassess his approach.

“We will have to change things against Nigeria, especially on a tactical and even technical level,” he told the Gabonese Press Agency.

The Gabonese coach is known for his flexible playing style, but facing a side as experienced as Nigeria means he must make adjustments both in formation and player roles.

While Nigeria go into the game as favourites, Mouyouma believes his team has what it takes to compete if they stay disciplined and adapt quickly on the field.

In the other semi-final, the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon will square off against the Leopards of the Democratic Republic of Congo at the El Barid Stadium, also in Rabat.

Winners from both fixtures will meet in the final on Sunday at the same Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex.
