The Senate has passed a resolution classifying kidnapping as an act of terrorism. It also stipulated that an amendment be made to the Terrorism Act to impose the maximum penalty of death to kidnappers.
The resolution was made during plenary on Wednesday, Nov. 26.
Under the new law, according to the upper legislative arm, once a kidnapping conviction is established, the death penalty must be applied.
This comes amid rising insecurity in the country, with bandits invading schools and churches to arrest citizens.
