Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the 2023 general election, allegedly suffered a broken right hand while in police custody.
The incident allegedly occurred on Thursday morning, August 7, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja and comes days after he shared post on social media accusing the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun of alleged favoritism in promotion of Nigerian police officers .
According to a post shared on Sowore’s official Instagram page, a police team led by a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) from the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit forcibly entered his detention cell and later moved him to an undisclosed location.
“At about 6AM, a police team, headed by a CSP from the IGP Monitoring Unit, forcibly entered Omoyele Sowore’s detention cell at the FID in Abuja, broke his right hand, and transported him to an undisclosed location,” the post stated.
Sowore had been detained the previous day after reportedly honoring an invitation from the IGP Monitoring Unit.
