Spanish giants FC Barcelona have denied reports linking goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen with a possible departure in the January transfer window.
Barcelona insists that the German shot-stopper remains central to the club’s plans.
Coolbase News reports that Ter Stegen, who has been at Barcelona for nearly a decade, has long served as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper and a respected leader in the dressing room.
Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, addressed the speculation in comments to Mundo Deportivo, which football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano later shared on 𝕏.
“There’s no January plan around Ter Stegen exit. If he was fit, he’d probably be playing. He’s our captain,” Deco said.
He explained that the club’s recent signing of Joan García from Espanyol had been misinterpreted as a move against Ter Stegen.
“Joan García was about the present and the future. Signing him wasn’t ‘against’ Ter Stegen; it was smart planning,” Deco clarified.
The 32-year-old German has been one of Barcelona’s most reliable performers since arriving from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2014.
With his quick reflexes, ability to play out from the back, and calm presence under pressure, Ter Stegen seamlessly took over as Barcelona’s No.1 after the departure of club legend Víctor Valdés.
He has also served as one of the team’s captains, cementing his role not only as a goalkeeper but also as a leader in the squad.
While Joan García’s arrival from city rivals Espanyol raised eyebrows, Barcelona insist the move was part of long-term squad planning rather than a sign of waning faith in their German keeper.
For Barcelona, Ter Stegen remains the present and future of their goalkeeping department, with the club stressing that no discussions have been held about a January exit.
