I’ll Quit Presidential Race If A Younger Candidate Defeats Me In ADC Primaries – Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has revealed that he will step aside from the 2027 presidential contest if a younger aspirant defeats him to secure the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket

Coolbase News, reports that the former presidential candidate made this known during an interview with BBC.

He explained that his focus for now is to help build the ADC into a strong party with national and grassroots structures.

Atiku added that if a younger candidate emerges during the primaries, he would give his support and mentorship rather than challenge the outcome.

He revealed that he has not made a final decision on running in 2027 but stressed that his priority is to help the party grow and prepare for the polls.

Atiku also spoke about his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party, saying the ruling All Progressives Congress created divisions in the opposition by allegedly planting loyalists in the PDP.

According to him, this interference weakened efforts to resolve the party’s internal crisis, leaving him with no option but to move to the ADC.

He said the ADC has completed its national leadership structure and is now focused on establishing strong state and local government organs ahead of the 2027 elections.

Atiku added that unlike the PDP, where his advice was ignored, the ADC is giving more room for the involvement of youths and women.
