NWFL Confirms November 26 As Kickoff Date For 2025/2026 Season

The Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) has confirmed that the 2025/2026 season will begin on November 26, 2025, and come to an end on April 22, 2026.

In a statement released by the NWFL Secretariat, the board announced that 20 clubs will take part in the upcoming season.

It also revealed that six teams will be relegated at the end of the campaign, a decision aimed at raising standards and keeping the competition fierce across all levels.

The schedule includes a short Christmas break after four match weeks to allow players and officials time to celebrate the festive period. The league will resume on January 7, 2026, with clubs continuing their push for the title.

“Our focus is to deliver a season that reflects the growth and potential of women’s football in Nigeria,” the NWFL board stated. “We are committed to ensuring quality competition, transparency, and wider exposure for our clubs and players.”

The league organisers also assured fans and stakeholders that the new season will be professionally managed, with improved officiating, stronger media coverage, and better fan engagement across all match venues.

Note that Bayelsa Queens are the reigning champions of the NWFL. They won their 6th title at the end of the 2024-2025 season. Rivers Angels and Pelican Stars are currently the most successful clubs in the women’s competition with 7 titles each.
