The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Rivers United have been handed a tricky test in the 2025-2026 CAF Champions League campaign.
They have been drawn in Group A alongside reigning champions Pyramids SC, Moroccan giants RS Berkane, and Zambia’s Power Dynamos.
The draw was conducted on Monday afternoon inside the SuperSport studios in Johannesburg, bringing together some of the most competitive teams in this year’s tournament. This marks Rivers United’s first-ever appearance in the group stage of Africa’s premier club competition.
The Port Harcourt side, led by coach Finidi George, booked their place in the group phase after a 3-1 aggregate win over Mozambique’s Black Bulls.
But the road ahead will not be easy for the former Nigerian champions. Pyramids SC, who lifted the CAF Champions League trophy for the first time last season, are widely seen as one of the strongest sides on the continent.
RS Berkane, though yet to win the competition, have consistently impressed in African tournaments and will be aiming to go one step further this time. Power Dynamos, who reached the quarter-finals back in 1985, are eager to re-establish themselves among the elite.
The 2025-2026 CAF Champions League group stage is scheduled to commence across the continent later this month.
