Arsenal’s defender William Saliba has opened up on why he rejected a move to Real Madrid, saying his heart remains set on helping the Gunners lift major trophies before considering a move elsewhere.
The French international, who recently signed a new long-term deal at the Emirates, admitted that the prospect of joining Madrid was tempting but insisted that his ambition to achieve success with Arsenal outweighed any personal gain.
“Of course it’s really tempting when a club like that is interested in you,” Saliba told Telefoot. “But I wanted to win titles at Arsenal first before thinking about anything else.”
The 23-year-old has become a cornerstone in Mikel Arteta’s backline and remains one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe. His commitment comes at a crucial time for the North London club, who currently sit six points clear at the top of the Premier League table after ten games and look determined to end their 20-year wait for the title.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane could be on the move again, with reports suggesting that the England captain is open to joining Barcelona next summer.
According to Catalan outlet Sport, the 32-year-old plans to make a final decision on his future at the end of the season. Kane, who has been in sensational form for Vincent Kompany’s side with 17 goals in all competitions, has a £57 million release clause that will become active next summer.
While Barcelona are prepared to match his current salary, several Premier League clubs are also monitoring the situation and could table more lucrative offers. Kane’s contract with Bayern runs until 2027, but speculation about his next move is already beginning to heat up.
