Super Eagles’ Alex Iwobi Speaks On Viral Hotel Video, Says Fans Got It Wrong

Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi has explained the story behind his viral hotel video, saying the clip making the rounds on social media was misunderstood and did not show the team’s actual accommodation ahead of Thursday’s World Cup qualifier against Gabon in Morocco.

The short video, which quickly drew anger from Nigerian fans, showed what appeared to be a run-down building near where the players are camped.

Many on social media assumed that was the Super Eagles’ hotel, with some calling it unfit for a national team and comparing it to a student hostel.

Iwobi also took to Snapchat to clear the air, saying his post had been taken out of context.

“I didn’t say anything; I just showed the video,” the Fulham midfielder said. “It’s all about perspective because I snapped at the view I have, and people are thinking these guys are ungrateful. Brother, I never said one thing. Some people don’t even have beds.”

He added that he was comfortable in his room and focused on the important task ahead. “Bro, I’m comfy. I’m playing Mario Kart. Anyways, let me go and focus, I have a big game coming up,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles have begun full preparations for their decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Gabon. Eighteen players have already arrived in camp at the Rive Hotel as training intensifies in Rabat.
