Tinubu Arrives Lagos For Easter Celebrations, To Visit Ogun, and Bayelsa States
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Lagos to observe the Easter holiday, ahead of a series of official engagements that will take him to Ogun and Bayelsa states. His presidential jet reportedly landed at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja at about 8:40 p.m. on Thursday.
Prior to his arrival, the Presidency had announced that Tinubu would be undertaking important project inaugurations, particularly in Ogun State. One of the major projects scheduled for commissioning is the Cargo Airport located in Iperu, a development seen as a significant boost to logistics, trade, and regional economic growth.
Before traveling to Lagos, the President made a brief but crucial visit to Plateau State following a series of violent attacks in Jos that resulted in multiple fatalities. The visit underscored the administration’s concern over the persistent security challenges in parts of the country. During his time in Plateau, Tinubu met with victims, community leaders, and government officials, expressing deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives.
Addressing the situation, President Tinubu assured residents that the federal government is taking decisive steps to strengthen security infrastructure. He announced plans to deploy an artificial intelligence-powered surveillance system consisting of over 5,000 digital cameras across the state. According to him, the initiative is aimed at enhancing intelligence gathering and supporting law enforcement agencies in preventing and responding to criminal activities.
Tinubu emphasized that the installation of these cameras would begin in Jos and gradually extend to other parts of Plateau State. He noted that similar systems have already been implemented successfully in Lagos and Enugu, providing a model for broader national adoption. The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijjani, has been tasked with overseeing the project in collaboration with the Plateau State Government and relevant security agencies.
In response to the March 29 attack in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area, the President issued firm directives to top security officials. These include the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, the Chief of Army Staff, and the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, ordering them to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killings.
During a meeting at the arrival lounge of the Yakubu Gowon Airport, Tinubu sympathized with grieving families, acknowledging that no amount of compensation could replace lost lives. He urged the community to remain resilient while assuring them that justice would be pursued diligently.
“It is only God that can give you joy and comfort,” the President said, reflecting on the emotional toll of the violence. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that such incidents do not recur, promising stronger preventive measures and improved coordination among security agencies.
Tinubu also directed the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Bernard Doro, to compile accurate and comprehensive data on all affected individuals and families. This, he said, would ensure that government relief efforts are distributed fairly and effectively to those in need.
In his remarks to stakeholders, including former governors and community leaders, Tinubu stressed the importance of learning from past incidents to prevent future occurrences. He highlighted the responsibility of leadership to prioritize peace, unity, and development, rather than merely responding to crises after they happen.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering security and prosperity across Nigeria, particularly for young people. He noted that the goal of governance is not to console victims of violence but to create an environment where peace and opportunity thrive.
As he continues his Easter break in Lagos, attention remains on his upcoming visits to Ogun and Bayelsa states, where further policy actions and development initiatives are expected to be unveiled.
