Liverpool are closing in on a major summer signing, with Rennes centre back Jeremy Jacquet set to undergo a medical ahead of a potential £60 million move to Anfield.

Although the deal is progressing, Jeremy Jacquet, 20, will not arrive during the current transfer window. Instead, he is expected to complete the switch in the summer, after both clubs agreed on a £55 million base fee plus £5 million add-ons.

If finalised, the France Under 21 international will commit to a five-year contract running until 2031, with an option for an additional year.

Chelsea were among the clubs to hold discussions with Jacquet earlier in the winter window, but sources suggest they are unwilling to match Liverpool’s offer.

Liverpool are keen to reinforce their defensive depth, particularly with Ibrahima Konate’s contract due to expire at the end of the season.

The Reds previously missed out on England international Marc Guehi, who opted to join Manchester City in January after Liverpool failed to secure his signature last summer.

Jeremy Jacquet, a product of Rennes’ academy, has made 18 first-team appearances this season. His composed displays and rapid development have drawn interest from several top European clubs, with Liverpool viewing him as a long-term prospect.

Elsewhere, Fulham have turned down an approach from Everton for midfielder Harry Wilson.

The Toffees made a move for the 28-year-old last week, but the Cottagers swiftly rejected the proposal and remained unwilling to sell during the January transfer window.

Wilson, who represents Wales at the international level, is set to become a free agent this summer. Despite that, Fulham are determined to keep him for the remainder of the season.

Head coach Marco Silva has insisted there is “zero chance” of Wilson being sold in January, as the club prioritises securing a long-term future.

Wilson initially joined Fulham on loan from Liverpool in July 2021 before making the move permanent. Since then, he has featured 173 times for the club, scoring 34 goals and providing 43 assists.

However, contract extension talks are currently on pause due to ongoing transfer interest. It is also believed that Wilson wants clarity over Silva’s future, with the manager himself out of contract this summer, before committing to any new deal.
